Gov. Ralph Northam has reappointed South Hill real estate agent Sharon Johnson to the state’s nine-member real estate board. Johnson said the real estate board is under the Virginia Department of Professional Occupation and Regulation and considers fair housing cases and recovery fund requests and hears cases resulting from complaints and subsequent investigations.
“We oversee all of the real estate licensees in the Commonwealth of Virginia,” Johnson said.
Johnson said that includes both those with a real estate license and those with a real estate license who are Realtors, and she said there is a distinction, as Realtors belong to the National Association of Realtors.
“A Realtor is a licensee, so we oversee Realtors and those who are not Realtors, so all the licensees,” Johnson said.
Johnson has been in real estate for about 39 years. She began her career in Lawrenceville at Clary and Associates and is now at the newly opened South Hill office of the Pointe Realty Group. She is a member of the National Association of Realtors, Virginia Realtors, the Southside Virginia Association of Realtors and the Roanoke Valley Lake Gaston Board of Realtors.
Johnson said the real estate board meets six times a year.
