Park View High School Seniors kicked off graduation week with an awards ceremony Monday morning. Representatives from numerous community organizations came out to present scholarships to various students.

Superintendent Paul Nichols congratulated the students on their achievements and said that this class is significant to him because the graduating seniors were freshmen when he first became the superintendent. Nichols said that education is changing, and even the focus of the awards ceremony has shifted to include career training. He pointed out that when students who had earned an industry certification were asked to stand and be recognized, most of the students stood.

That is huge in this day and time, Nichols said.

In addition to the scholarship presentations, the ceremony also included recognitions for students who attended the governors school, were outstanding in a particular subject, were early college scholars, earned a presidential academic award, or are honors students. Principal Wesley Swain said that 54 students have maintained at least a 3.8 GPA and are thus graduating with honors.
