Update: Jason Michael Day, 38, was apprehended by a Virginia Department of Corrections tactical team in Nottoway County Tuesday afternoon. The VADOC Fugitive Unit, the Prince Edward County Sheriff's Department, the Nottoway County Sheriff's Department, the Norfolk Southern Railroad Police, the Virginia State Police, the VADOC Canine Unit, the VADOC Special Operations Unit, and VADOC correctional officers from multiple facilities aided in the search.
Authorities are searching for a prisoner who walked away from Nottoway Work Center in Burkeville Monday morning at approximately 10 a.m. Jason Michael Day, 38, was part of a greenhouse work unit. According to the Virginia Department of Corrections, Day is serving a sentence for possession with intent to distribute and was not scheduled to be released until July 2020.
The department encourages the public not to approach Day if they see him, but to alert the authorities. Day is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 175 pounds, with multiple tattoos. According to the Nottoway Sheriff’s Office, Day was spotted early Tuesday morning on Meherrin Road in Meherrin, wearing blue jeans and an orange shirt. He is believed to be heading west.
