John Lloyd Mayo, Sr. was born July 27, 1931 to the late Willie Queen Walker Mayo Clark and Herman Mayo. He departed this life on June 20, 2019. He was preceded in death by one sibling, Willie Herman Mayo. John attended the Mecklenburg County Public School System and served in the United States Marine Corps. His last job was that of a truck driver for VAMAC Plumbing, Well and Septic Supplies Company.
John leaves to cherish memories: his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy Lillian; daughters, Annette Tucker of Brodnax, Sherry Davis of Indianapolis, IN, Dorothy Jean Rainey (Melvin) of South Hill and Vivian Merritte of Aberdeen, MD; a son, John Lloyd Mayo, Jr. of Chesapeake; four sisters, Martha Carr and Myrine Buford of Baltimore, MD, Minnie Mincey (Ben) of New Jersey and Delores Campbell of Orange Park, FL; three brothers, Andrew Mayo and Ulysses Mayo (Lorraine) of Baltimore, MD and James (Linda) Mayo of New Jersey; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and devoted neighbors, Leon Drummond, George Johnson, James Barner, Jeffrey Thomas and Clarence King.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 27 at Pleasant Hill RZUA Church, La Crosse, VA with Rev. Joseph Peterson, Pastor officiating and Rev. Russell Brown eulogizing. Viewing will be from 12 noon until 5 pm, Wednesday, June 26 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
