The Park View High School boys’ soccer team, the Tri-Rivers District regular season champions, captured the district tournament title with a 3-0 win over Windsor HS at Bunny’s Field on Thursday evening.
The win, coupled with a 7-1 victory over Southampton HS in the regular season finale. improved Park View to 16-1 overall and completed a perfect 14-0 mark in district play.
“We are proud and happy for our team to win the regular season and the district tournament,” said Park View coach Trudy Gentry. “It makes the hard work that the players put in before and during the season worthwhile.”
Park View scored at the 25:02 mark of the first half on a rebound goal by Chance Melton after the Windsor keeper deflected a shot by Jacob Fadool for a 1-0 lead that the Dragons took to the halftime break.
Park View added a pair of scores in the second half. Adam Crabel scored on a penalty kick in the box after a handball at the 32:53 mark, and Eli Fadool scored on a pass from Aaaron Reamey at the 3:02 mark to put the exclamation on the victory.
The Dragons topped Southampton HS 7-1 last Tuesday at Bunny’s Field in the regular season finale.
The Indians jumped out to a 1-0 lead early, but Park View answered when Jaykuan Brandon scored on a pass from Eli Fadool to knot the score at one at the halftime break.
Park View scored five minutes into the second half when Reamey scored on a pass from Brandon. Three minutes later, Jaydon Turner scored and then found the net again 10 minutes later for a 4-1 lead.
The Dragons got two goals from Justin Zincone and one from Noah Nielsen over the last 15 minutes to complete the scoring. Kevon Goins and Brandon added assists on two of the scores.
Park View, the top seed for the Class 3, Group A tournament, will play host to No. 8 Phoebus HS on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Bunny’s Field. A win would allow the Dragons to play host to a semifinal contest on Friday with a state tournament berth on the line.
Lady Dragons win finale
The Park View HS girls’ soccer team topped Nottoway HS 2-0 last week to finish the regular season with a 6-7-1 record.
Kacey Wall and Isabel Cranford scored goals in the victory for the Lady Dragons.
“We made a few adjustments at halftime which resulted in two goals,” said Coach Mark Roberts.
Park View earned the fifth-seed for the Class 3, Region A tournament and will travel to fourth-seeded Lakeland HS for a rematch of a regular season contest on Wednesday evening.
The Lady Dragons fell 3-0 to Lakeland in the season opener.
