Dragons smoke Colonials in opener

GOOD START –Justyn Hudson threw well to earn the win in Park View’s 11-1 win over Colonial Heights HS on Monday evening. He also added three hits at the plate in the victory.

Park View High School Coach Mike Barmoy could not have asked for a better start on the road for his team in the season opener as the Dragons scored eight runs in the top of the first and cruised to an 11-1 win over Colonial Heights HS in five innings on Monday evening.

“I liked the way we were patient at the plate, took our walks, and mixed in a few hits and put up a big number in the first,” said Barmoy.

The Dragons wasted no time in going to work as leadoff batter Justin Clary walked to start the game and Brandon Rolfe followed with a single to the gap.

A deep fly ball by Cameron Sheets was misplayed by a Colonials’ outfielder loading the bases.

Jaison Dugger followed with a walk to score the first run of the game and Rolfe scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 lead.

After Trevor Tanner walked, Jarrett Hamby singled to score Sheets.

Jefferson Barmoy plated a run with an RBI walk for a 4-0 lead.

Cameron Shook reached on a fielder’s choice to score one run and Hamby scored on a throwing error for a 6-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Justyn Hudson followed with a single and Rolfe drove in another run with an RBI single for an 8-0 lead.

Park View added one run in the second when Hamby doubled, Barmoy singled and Hudson followed with an RBI double.

The Dragons scored two runs in the top of the fifth when Hudson led off with his second double of the game, Rolfe doubled to score a run and Dugger drove in a run with an RBI single.

The Colonials added their lone run of the game in the bottom of the third on a walk and a base hit.

Hudson threw the first three innings to earn the win for Park View while Mason Mills came on in relief to pitch the final two innings, the two pitchers allowing only three hits on the night.

Rolfe, Hamby and Hudson all had three hits apiece to pace Park View while Sheets, Dugger and Barmoy added one hit apiece.

The Dragons will welcome Randolph-Henry HS for their home opener on Thursday with the JV game starting at 4 p.m. and the varsity game to follow.
